The Google Cloud Delete Project Error
There are 2 ways to delete a Google Cloud Project, it can be done in the Web Interface, or it can be done via the gcloud command-line interface.
How to delete via the GCP Web Interface?
Log into the Google Cloud Console
Navigate to IAM and Admin, then press the Settings Button
Make sure you have your project selected at the top, in this example the project is called a “Richards Backups”. Then hit the “Shutdown” button to close and delete the project.
Confirm the projects name and then shutdown
If successful you should get this confirmation
But, most likely the reason for visiting this site is that you ARE NOT getting the successful.
You are probably seeing something like this
The project has a lien against it.
A “lien” is a lock you can put on an account to prevent accidental deletion.
If this is the case, from the Google Cloud Web Interface open the Google cloud console (gcloud)
Wait for the console to start, then you can validate the lien by typing
gcloud alpha resource-manager liens list
to delete the lien type
gcloud alpha resource-manager liens delete [LIEN_NAME]
You can now delete the project. Thats it.
